Unplugged Honorees

Unplugged 2016 honors leaders who empower families and inspire imagination and play.

Bananagrams Inc. – the creation of three generations of the Nathanson family, spanning in age from 7-75 years – grew from their passionate love of games.  The company, which exists to help people everywhere rediscover a love for games that stimulate the mind, is continually developing new games that can be enjoyed by all ages and that families can play together.  After launching at the London Toy Fair in January 2006, Bananagrams is now a modern classic and an international phenomenon, with games sold in 31 countries.  Its games help improve spelling and literacy, encouraging children to love words and letters.

A non-profit organization founded in 1834 with a mission to improve the well-being and healthy development of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable young children, Children’s Friend is a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health and child development services.  Families are strengthened by creating safe and nurturing environments for children during the crucial early years, and by helping parents gain access to the resources, education, and support that they need.  In this way, children are given the foundation to help them live healthy and productive lives.  Children’s Friend provides services to help over 34,000 children and families.
