Providence Children's Museum
Nets $40,800 at Annual Golf Tournament
On
August 2, 124 golfers took part in the 27th Annual Allen H. Chatterton,
Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the world-famous Carnegie Abbey Club in
Portsmouth. The tournament netted $40,800 to benefit the Museum’s
hands-on exhibits and innovative educational programs.
The day’s winners included: low gross team – Mark Doorley and team from
Doorley Insurance Agency; low net team – Brad Dimeo and team from Dimeo
Construction Company; individual low net – Ken Read; and individual low
gross – Joe Pannone. In addition to golf, 8 tennis players
participated in a lively round robin, won by John Shekarchi and John
Savastano.
At the evening’s dinner, auctioneer auctioneer Steve MacDonald (WPRO’s
“Gym Shorts on Sports”) encouraged guests to bid a generous $12,800 on
exciting live and silent auction items including a weekend sports fan
getaway and rounds of golf at exclusive courses. A raffle and
contest holes around the course fetched an additional $4,450. The
foursome from Nortek, Inc. won a round at Sakonnet Golf Club in a
special contest sponsored by Chatterton Insurance, Inc.
The Museum’s annual golf tournament was instituted in 1983 by the late
Allen Chatterton, Jr., an early supporter and board member of the
Children’s Museum. The Museum gratefully acknowledges Allen H.
Chatterton III, who chaired the tournament for the 21st consecutive
year in memory of his father, and the following sponsors: Deidre &
